Get to know Box Mill Hall – a quintessential South Coast wedding venue

If you grew up on the South Coast of Massachusetts, you probably associate cranberry bogs very strongly with the region. And if you’ve been here a long time, they’re probably something you appreciate about the region. So, why not get married at one?! You can do just that at Box Mill Hall in Wareham—a mill-turned-wedding-venue with all the charm you’d expect from a quaint, historic South Coast farm, and then some.

Box Mill Hall has been a working cranberry farm for over 200 years. It wasn’t until about a decade ago that there was enough interest in the hall as a wedding venue for it to officially become one—but in that time, many, many South Coast couples (and even a few from other parts of Massachusetts and New York) have chosen it as the perfect setting for their dream day.

One of the best and most appreciated features of the venue, explained Event Planner Julie Brewster, is that “it’s a little DIY, but not totally a blank slate.” In other words, your options for the specific theme & style of your rustic wedding are pretty limitless, and while Julie and her team do provide vendor suggestions, you’re free to work with vendors who can flawlessly execute your vision. (Check out this post if you’re in need of some inspiration!)

That being said, though, “we will create timelines and help you every step of the way,” Julie explained, if that’s what you feel you need. Her highest priority is giving couples the peace of mind they deserve on their wedding day.

I asked Julie about her favorite part of being an event planner. “I like meeting new people,” she shared, “but generally, I just love helping someone have the wedding they want and be able to relax on their wedding day. They can’t be both the planner and the bride. They want a great wedding day how they planned, but I will execute it for them so they can enjoy the day.” (Because who needs stress when you should be focused on having fun?!)

“Because this is such an intimate job, I am the vendor who speaks with them the most,” Julie went on. “If something came up, I know exactly how the bride would want it handled.” There’s nothing like having someone to lean on for support who totally gets you and has your back 100% on your big day.

Other things that make Box Mill Hall awesome

  • Unlike other nearby venues, Box Mill Hall doesn’t have a food and beverage minimum. “You can have control over where your money goes,” Julie explained, without having to automatically set aside a bigger chunk of your budget than you’d like to to feed your guests.
  • The farm surrounding Box Mill Hall also features a pond—it’s pretty rare to find a beautiful waterfront ceremony spot and a beautiful barn on the same property! When you hold your wedding here, you get the best of both worlds.
