About Wadsworth Mansion
Originally built in 1900 as a summer residence for the family of Colonel Clarence S. Wadsworth, the Mansion was designed by one of the most innovative landscape architecture firms of the era.
To this day, it remains one of the most unique country estate wedding venues in New England. The very first wedding ever held at the Mansion – of Wadsworth’s son Julius and his bride Cleome – took place in 1934 and had over 1,000 guests! Fret not, though – this doesn’t mean your big day has to be a huge, grand affair. In fact, the cozy, quaint vibe of the venue actually lends itself just as well to smaller, more intimate weddings!
“We attract couples searching for a classic, elegant but unique setting, who love the idea of utilizing both the outdoors and indoors into their day,” explained Jessica Hess, Director of Events and Sales at the venue. She described the Wadsworth couple as one “looking to take charge of their plans and create an experience that is outside the normal banquet hall wedding.”
She went on, “Our space allows for creativity in décor and flow of an event, so a couple that has a creative vision is a great fit.”
Wadsworth Mansion’s Unique Event Spaces
There are several great event spaces on the Wadsworth Mansion grounds, each thoughtfully and intentionally designed with guests’ experience in mind. The lovely terrace just outside the main building is perfect for a relaxing, fun cocktail hour and for a magical reception under the stars. For larger celebrations, both the East and West Ballrooms are used to comfortably accommodate all guests; for more intimate gatherings, couples have the option of turning one ballroom into a cozy lounge area, or utilize it in a different way! In total, the Mansion can host up to 200 guests for a sit-down dinner reception.

Helping each couple craft a unique, customized day is extremely important to the staff at Wadsworth Mansion.“Only one event is scheduled each day,” explained Jessica Hess, Director of Events and Sales at the venue. “I love getting to know our couples, and learn about their wedding planning journey. The best part is watching their eyes light up when walking through our doors, and helping them plan their one of a kind celebration in our beautiful Mansion.”
Photography Opportunities
Every inch of the Wadsworth Mansion grounds is absolutely stunning…but a few spots take the cake (no pun intended) as the most popular for photos! Natural light floods the inside of the mansion thanks to the elegant French doors and enormous windows; the foyer is a beautiful and romantic spot for your first look and some unique portraits afterwards.
Outside, there are gorgeous trees ideal for adding an enchanted forest vibe to your portraits. The Tennis Pavilion is also an amazing place for photos, with lovely greenery and a simple-yet-elevated aesthetic.
And, of course, don’t forget the incredible facade of the mansion itself! Walking hand in hand with your new spouse, seeing the gorgeous building behind you and the smiling faces of your best friends as they celebrate the most important day of your life with you…it’s truly a feeling like no other.
Wedding Details
The entire mansion is yours for your whole wedding day – and Jessica and her team are committed to making you and your guests feel completely at ease and at home the entire time you’re there.
The full rental period for a wedding is 9 hours – 3 for setup and ceremony time, 5 for the event itself, and 1 for breakdown. Additional hours can always be purchased as well. Wadsworth Mansion has a beautiful bridal suite on-site so that all the events of your day, including getting ready, can happen in one place, making for a seamless, leisurely flow.
