Every vendor has their favorite types of weddings to work, and for me personally as a photographer, non-traditional weddings, backyard weddings, and woodsy weddings are all top contenders. So you can imagine my excitement when I was asked to second-shoot Shelly & Dave’s Halloween New Hampshire wedding – it was all three of those combined!
Shelly & Dave got married on October 31 at a private residence nestled in the woods of southern New Hampshire. To say that their wedding was hauntingly beautiful would be not only an excellent play on words, but also an understatement. Every single detail—from Shelly’s black, feathery dress, to the spooky fog that drifted down the aisle as she walked, to the coffin-shaped box that held her stunning moonstone ring—had some kind of Halloween touch, while still feeling totally classy and elegant. Couples sometimes worry they’ll have to sacrifice their quirky, creative ideas in order to make the day feel “fancy enough.” Luckily, in the modern wedding world, that’s not the case at all!
Yes, these two truly went all-out. They had an amazing piano-cello duo playing pre-ceremony music, a tent adorned with hanging dried flowers and tables decorated with candles and skills, and the wildest cake I’ve ever seen, complete with a skeleton-bride-and-groom topper. It was such a great reminder that just about any outdoor space can become the perfect wedding venue with the right decor & planning!
Honestly, it’s hard to say what my favorite part of this New Hampshire wedding was. Getting to photograph a Halloween-themed wedding, right on Halloween, was cool enough on its own, but there were so many more things that made the day unforgettable. It was easy to see what an enduring, rock-solid connection Shelly & Dave had, and they began this new chapter of their lives with so much support from their families & friends. The entire day was filled with laughter, and the later hours of the reception were filled with some seriously epic dance floor moments. As I drove back home from NH to MA that night, I couldn’t help thinking, Now, there’s a wedding I will definitely never forget.
