About the Roger Williams Botanical Gardens
Roger Williams Park in Providence, RI has long been known as a prime spot in the city for leisure & recreation. The botanical garden is open to the public during the day, but it’s also available to rent for private events! If you love plants and nature, or if you’re already excited thinking about how beautifully your flowers will pair with the endless greenery, this is the perfect place to host your epic wedding.
Built in 2007, the Roger Williams Botanical Garden is the largest indoor garden in all of New England, boasting 23,000 feet of greenhouse space. To be perfectly honest, there isn’t a huge need for outside decorations at this venue since all of the event spaces are so naturally stunning. But you can create a GORGEOUS, upscale & elegant vibe by adding unique flowers!
Wedding ceremonies are typically held in the Conservatory, which has a capacity of 160, and receptions typically take place in the bright, gorgeous Mediterranean Room, which can comfortably accommodate up to 130 guests (110 with a live band). You’ll make your grand entrance through an elegant villa-esque arch, adorned with vines and hanging plants. Other standout features of the reception space include the sparking pool, stone accents, and palm trees – your evening will feel like a garden soiree!
Photography Opportunities
There are some AMAZING wedding photography opportunities right on the Roger Williams Botanical Garden grounds, and elsewhere in the park. The main greenhouse itself makes a stunning backdrop for portraits, and the aisles inside the smaller greenhouses are perfect for first looks. If you’re down to explore other parts of the park for truly out-of-the-ordinary images, head over to the carousel – you can take a free ride with your entire wedding party, and take some adorable photos while you’re there!
Plus, there are so many spots inside the main greenhouse where you can get creative with your photographer. And once the sun goes down and the colorful LED lights illuminate the greenhouse, you’ve got an amazing backdrop for a spectacular night shot!
At this venue, you’re surrounded by amazing plant life pretty much everywhere you look – and so, naturally, you’re surrounded by great photo spots too! Your photographer can help you choose the areas of the grounds that best capture your unique essence as a couple.
Wedding Details
The Roger Williams Botanical Garden is rented out for weddings on a five-hour basis. Because the garden is open to the public during the day, ceremonies must start after 5 PM – aside from the overall tropical feel, this timing makes the venue especially ideal for summer weddings (though it’s open year-round).
The Roger Williams Park event team has an extensive list of preferred caterers and rental companies that can provide all the services you need for a smooth, seamless night of dinner and dancing.
Despite its urban location, the Botanical Garden also has plenty of on-site parking. You don’t have to stress one bit about your guests’ comfort – you can simply focus on having the time of your life!
