If you’re dreaming of a wedding that blends historic New England charm with a cozy, romantic atmosphere, a Sturbridge Publick House wedding might be exactly what you’re looking for. Jocelyne & Evan’s January celebration at this beautiful inn-style venue was the perfect example of how magical winter weddings can be—especially when you embrace the season’s warmth and intimacy.

Located right in the heart of Sturbridge, Massachusetts, the Sturbridge Publick House feels like stepping back in time—in the best possible way. Between the rustic wooden beams, stone fireplaces, and candlelit reception spaces, it has that quintessential New England inn aesthetic that’s both elegant and inviting.
As a wedding photographer, I love venues that offer a variety of photo locations, and this one has them all. From the grand ballroom to the cozy tavern-style nooks, there’s a perfect backdrop for every part of the day. Even in winter, the grounds are beautiful—the stone patio and big wooden doors outside the main building make for a stunning first look or couple’s portrait location.

Jocelyne & Evan’s wedding day took place on an icy, rainy January evening, but you’d never know it by how warm and joyful the atmosphere felt. The venue still had its Christmas décor up, so there were soft twinkle lights, frosty evergreen trees, and accents of gold everywhere you looked. It created such a beautiful, festive backdrop for their celebration.
These two have such genuine, kind personalities, and that warmth absolutely came through in every photo. Between the crackling fireplaces, the glow of candlelight, and their beaming smiles, the entire day felt like one big cozy celebration of love.

Every time I photograph a wedding at Sturbridge Publick House, I’m reminded just how versatile it is. The big, beautiful ballroom is ideal for classic, elegant receptions, while the surrounding spaces offer so much texture and character for portraits. Whether it’s the curved staircases, rustic wooden doors, or the historic charm of the inn itself, there’s no shortage of great angles to play with.
One of my favorite things about this venue is how it truly captures that “classic New England” feel without ever feeling stuffy or outdated. It’s comfortable, welcoming, and full of personality—just like Jocelyne & Evan’s wedding day.
If possible, plan your first look outdoors. The stone patio and walkway right outside the main building offer a timeless and romantic backdrop, even in the colder months.
Use the architecture to your advantage. Between the wooden beams, charming doorways, and candlelit windows, you’ll get a lovely mix of rustic and refined photo moments.
Embrace the season. Whether it’s the holiday décor in winter or the blooming gardens in spring, the Publick House always has a unique charm depending on the time of year.
